Excellent communication during booking process. Everything was as expected, can not fault. The hosts were on hand if required during our stay.

Tips:

This is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas. There are several walks you can do from the lodge. It is only a very short drive to Fort William, Fort Augustus and the base of Ben Nevis.

Campbell and Nina were very friendly and helpful The lodges were lovely and we enjoyed the peaceful setting sitting out on the balcony overlooking the river

Tips:

The setting was ideal and depending on your level of fitness you could walk sections of the Great Glen Way along the canal which are beautiful and easy or go to the other extreme and climb the Ben which you can see from the lodges In between you have Glen Coe We took a trip over to Mull and also drove all the way to Ardnamurchan point which was well worth the long drive, spectacular scenery on the way although not for the faint hearted! We were worried about midges but they were not a problem either We will definitely be returning. Keith and Judith

We had an excellent short break at Burnbank. The lodges are small but well equipped and spotlessly clean. It is an ideal spot for couples looking for a tranquil base from which to explore the West Highlands. Particularly enjoyed sitting on the small deck of an evening, sipping a whisky and listening to the river slipping by. Recommended for anyone needing peace and relaxation.

Tips:

It doesn't matter in which direction you drive you will be rewarded by amazing scenery. Get the steam train to Mallaig over the Glenfinnan viaduct, but book well in advance. Head to Neptune's staircase and watch boats negotiate the locks while having a drink on the outside deck of the Moorings Hotel or spend time exploring stunning Glencoe.

Would most certainly return as it is an ideal base for couples who want to take advantage of the beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

We felt the Cosy cabin was just on the small side for us, in hind site we should have took the bigger one when offered. we enjoyed our stay and had a firestick with us so we had full netflix & Amazon prime. The WIfi was perfect for watching a show or movie. We went to a lot of different places, and done some cycling along the caledonian canal. The location was great for getting out & about.

not much to reply here as the local hotel was closed, and couldn't go for a pint as such.

Thanks for taking time to post a review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We wish you'd have asked about options for going for a pint, as both The Bridge Cafe and The Old Station Restaurant in the village are licensed and both are perfect for a pint in the evening. We're hoping the Spean Bridge Hotel will reopen, but we await news from them.

Walk about 400 metres out of village towards Commando Memorial and take the pathway signposted on the left - a beautiful easy walk which ends at the Memorial. 3. I'm so pleased to have discovered Burnbank Lodges; for me, this is the perfect location from which to base my walking & fishing adventures in Lochaber. Leading up to my stay there was plentiful and very helpful contact with the owners, Nina and Campbell. Following one of those dreadful trips north up the M6 (!!) I enjoyed a wonderful and thoughtful welcome from Nina and Campbell whose little personal touches such as milk in the fridge, a welcoming porch light left on etc. made all the difference. Clean, tidy and everything I could possibly wish for was on on hand. A great stay!

Tips:

I genuinely got the feeling that nothing would have been too much trouble for Nina and Campbell. "The Smiddy House", just down the road into Spean Bridge opened the kitchen so that a friend and I could get a hot meal after a day out walking in the pouring rain - excellent food and another warm welcome. Go and pay your resects at the Commando memorial; if you can get there at dawn you might be rewarded (as I was on one day) by possibly one of the most beautiful views in Scotland looking East.

Welcoming and helpful. Very clean. Preferred location over Fort William, quieter and you feel emersed in the countryside.

Tips:

Great base for exploring. As the area is very popular, pre-book your evening meals. Short drive to Fort William should you require supermarkets etc.

Enjoyed our long weekend here. Lovely lodges, very clean, fresh and well equipped. Made to feel very welcome. Good location for exploring the area around the Nevis Range or to use as a base for exploring further afield. One visit is not enough!

Tips:

Small shop at the end of road, mill shop and cafe. Fort William has all your large supermarkets and eateries.

We received a great welcome and information about the midges!!! and it is a good location for exploring further afield in the Highlands. The Satnav was a little confused as to it's exact location, but that was no fault of Burnbank Lodges.

Tips:

If you need to shop before you arrive then Fort William is probably the best place to do this as there are at least 3 large food shops off the main highway to Spean Bridge. We shopped here as we didn't know about local shops. Spean Bridge Mill shop seems to be a good place to visit as we saw someone in Oban with one of their carrier bags full. Otherwise Spean Bridge is a great centre for exploration.

Can't speak highly enough about Burnbank. Beautiful location in woods by the river, cabins are just perfect, owners very friendly and accommodating. Very relaxing. Was our 2nd time there and may not be the last.

Tips:

Small shop in Spean Bridge just 5 min walk away, also restaurant. Fort William is a 15 min car journey for a greater choice, bigger shops etc. Great little museum there too about the area. The scenery in this part of Scotland is breathtaking. Perfect location for walks. A few very good ones are around Lake Ossian and Rannoch Moor which can be accessed by train from Spean Bridge (get off at Corrour and Rannoch respectively) I'd recommend it. Other great walks are around the Loch Arcaig area, Glen Roy (Very close by), and Glencoe.

Tips:

The local shop has a good variety of goods. The Old Station restaurant is very good as is Russells restaurant, but a bit pricier. The Bridge cafe is also great for breakfast or lunch. Burnbank is situated in a great position to visit a lot of places in the highlands & I would recommend a drive across the Cairngorms & the drive to Skye if you have the time. Everything at the lodge was very clean, freshly decorated and really nicely presented. The bedding, towels and toiletries were of hotel standard, and the lodge is very well equipped. We arrived to hotel style supply of tea, coffee and biscuits, and fresh milk in the fridge. The heating and hot water were very efficient as it was a chilly springtime. There is also a laundry and drying g room. The position of the lodge is very pretty and you can hear the river. It is a very peaceful spot.

Tips:

We ate at the Moorings by Neptune’s Staircase in Fort William which is lovely. The Highland Wildlife Park near Aviemore is well worth a visit. The Nevis range gondola is a lovely way to get the view on a clear day. It is a out £20 each, but there are lots of walks for all abilities at the top and a huge cafe with terrace.

We were more than happy: this is a great and peaceful place, completely surrounded by nature, the only sound you'll hear is the wonderful river nearby. Very friendly and helpful owners who really take great care to make you welcome.

Tips:

We mostly used the self catering facilities of the lodge, so we didn't really experience much of the local restaurants. Within 10 to 20 minutes travel distance (by car) there are wonderful hikes and walks in the glens and the highlands. I would like to suggest especially the "parallel roads" hike that starts at the end of the (spectacular) small public road leading from nearby Roybridge to Glen Roy.

22nd April 2018:

Very pleasant location. Very quiet. Some lodges had a riverside position. Could be quite shaded in the summer when the trees have their leaves. Good to see such active re-cycling of a wide variety of items.

Tips:

Lots of places are within an easy drive. Fort William has a lot to offer. Neptune's staircase is always worth a visit. Aviemore still had lots of snow and was stunning.

11th January 2018:

A very peaceful and relaxed location which is not too far from Fort William town centre (8 miles) so not too taxing when driving to and from the city centre. We took our dog and the location is ideal for dog walking etc. The proprieters dealt with any very little minor issues as soon as they were informed. Overall, we spent 14 days in the lodges and had a great time throughout.

Tips:

Stables restaurant in Fort William for dinner is recommended as well as visiting Ben Nevis (rode the gondola to the top restaurant), Brewers Fayre is an ideal place to eat when in Fort William.

Burnbank really is the perfect way to get away ! Expertly maintained, superb facilities, helpful owners, easy access to most parts of the Highlands. Rea and Phil make us very welcome every visit. The lodges are for 2 people only so there are no children around, very peaceful indeed.

Tips:

If like us you have stressful jobs and need to get away to forget it all, try Burnbank. The wildlife on site and around Spean Bridge is amazing, it is the perfect spot to access the Highlands and Skye, Bute, Rhum, etc. Easy reach of Oban, Inverness, Fort William. Nevis Range Gondolas are a must. Superb forest walk from Spean Bridge ( next to the pub). Russell’s is an excellent restaurant in Spean Bridge and also the Grog and Gruel, Fort William.

9th August 2017:

These lodges are absolutely adorable! They're right on the riverbank and the views are superb. The site is extremely peaceful despite just being off a main road. Philip and Ria were very helpful with anything we needed without being overbearing. Everything was clearly explained to us on our arrival, and anything you could possibly need was in the lodges, even down to a butter dish! We would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much!

Tips:

We dined at The Old Station Restaurant one evening which was great, by far the best bar/restaurant in Spean Bridge. The location is great for getting south towards Fort William or across to Loch Ness/Inverness or even Skye. Glencoe is beautiful with some lovely walks and if you like art, the Holroyd Gallery in Ballachulish is a must. Obviously Ben Nevis is the best walk around but it was by far the most difficult climb I have done (as an amateur, so don't be fooled, it isn't just an easy country walk!) Other places of interest...Eilean Donan castle, Culloden Battlefield, Attach Mor and the Nevis Range gondola, and there are so many places to do outdoor sports, and gift shops/whisky shops everywhere you go! The best one for us was Spean Bridge Mill which was just round the corner from the lodges, just perfect.

Fine lodge but when you cook , the fan above the cooker blows air into the room instead of outside so the windows get wet.

Tips:

Don't take the Jacobite in Fort William, it is very expensive and you don't see the viaduct of Harry Potter. You better take the train in Spean Bridge to Glenfinnan and there is a walk to the bridge. Look at the time tables in Spean Bridge. This year in 2017 two steam trains were passing on the viaduct about 3 pm. There is also a nice walk through the wood to the Memorial of Commanders starting in Spean Bridge, a 1/2 miles from the center direction Inverness. (left side)

Nice setting and friendly hosts. Everything was great apart from the weather! We did find it quite hard to get things to dry due to the amount of rain, but that wasn't,t through any fault of the lodge, which had heating, a dehumidifier and access to a drying room, where we could even leave our bikes.

Tips:

Some nice cycle routes around the area - great glen way can be accessed 4 miles away, and we found some good circular routes to Fort William and back and up to Fort Augustus (that was quite a long one!) Book any restaurants you fancy eating in, especially on Saturday night :-)

I come to Scotland every winter for Mountaineering, and I can honestly say that this is the best place I have stayed. This time I took my partner for her first mountain experience, and we were after accommodation for two. This place ticked all the boxes before we even got there, two person accommodation, great location and low cost. When we got there it was even better. Fantastic accommodation including a handy dry room after days spent slogging in the snow. Fantastic hosts who were helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. I'll without a doubt be back again.

A warm welcome on arrival. The owners, Mia and Phil, were extremely friendly and helpful. The lodge, ideal for one or two people, was very comfortable, well equipped, clean and tidy. The location was very tranquil with the lodges set well apart in natural woodland on the banks of the river Spean. The woodland, gardens and shrubberies were a picture of colour and abundant in wildlife. The bird song in the early mornings and evenings was a delight to listen to. An ideal location for exploring the southern Highlands. A fantastic holiday - thank you.

Tips:

You don't have to go far for a great meal out - try the Old Station Restaurant or Russell's Restaurant both just down the road in Spean Bridge. The Commando memorial and a walk around their old base at Achnacarry by Loch Arkaig and Mile Dorcha is a must. Areas of outstanding beauty to visit include:-Ardnamurchan, Moidart, Sunart & Loch Shiel: Kingairloch, Morvern & Lochaline; Glenfinnan, LochAilort, Arisaig, Morar & Malaig; and all points west to Kyle of Lochalsh, Plockton and Applecross; and The Ciarngorms National Park.

31st October 2015:

The chalet is perfect for two people. It has everything you need and it is very quiet and peaceful. There are wall heaters which heat up quickly. We didn't keep them on overnight so it was quite cold in the mornings. The duvet on the bed was a bit too heavy for our liking. The shower worked well. A suggestion would be to have a shelf within the shower to place shampoo etc.

Tips:

We filled our time very well with a lovely walk along to the Commando Monument by the river seeing the High Bridge on route, a trip to Anoch Mhor to mountain bike on the Nevis Range and to take the gondola up to the summit and follow the two walks up there and a cycle along the Caledonian Canal from Banavie to Gairlochy and back. A great place to eat is The Moorings Hotel at Neptune's Staircase at Banavie. We also visited Fort William and can recommend a good value meal at Wetherspoons. A trip along to Mallaig is worthwhile for the scenery and the good roads. The local Spar has most things you need if you want to cook in.

Although we didn't have a great deal of contact with the staff, the interaction we did have was pleasant and helpful.

Tips:

A lovely place to eat within walking distance is the Old Station Restaurant where you can eat whatever your budget and also enjoy the scenery. You may be lucky enough (as we were) to be there when a train comes by.

We stayed at Burnbank Lodges in april 2015 and we had a lovely week in the cosy lodge. Every day we enjoyed the beautifull view on the river very much. Although the lodges are situated on the edge of the village of Spean Bridge, which was very convenient for shops and restaurants, it feld as being into the wild. The lodge itselve was nicely furnished and everything we needed was there. Ria and Philip, thank you for your kind and helpful hospitality and that you make it possible for other people to experience this special place. It was hard to leave.

Very enjoyable stay, despite the, sometimes, atrocious weather. The lodge was warm, comfortable and very restful. Phil and Ria were pleasant and helpful and the site is well positioned for journeys in all directions. All in all a lovely place to stay. Already planning our next visit.

Tips:

Highlights were awesome scenery, especially in Glen Roy (Ice Age landscape), the beach near Arisaig (including the seals), the trip to Ardnamurchan (the most twisting, up and down road on which I have ever driven :-) ) with a great lunch at the smashing Glen Uig inn , the pace of life and the drive there through Glen Coe, past Loch Lomond etc.

Lovely holiday as always. Phil and Ria are great hosts. The setting is perfect for a cosy relaxing holiday in the Highlands.

Great central location. Lots of options for walking, cycling and winter sports. Plenty of mt views for sightseeing. Local amenities are plentiful in Summer but in Winter you'll need to travel to Ft William to have a lot of options.

22nd February 2015:

Fantastic location; within 15 minutes from the Ben Nevis Range, approximately 1 hour from Aviemore and close to all of the amenities one would ever need. Phil & Ria are fantastic hosts, there if required at any time and great for local information, weather forecasts and avalanche reports. Lodges are simple, yet well and logically equipped, perfectly sized for two and warm in the winter. An excellent base for two winter climbers, skiers and mountaineers which was why we stayed at Burnbank. We hope to return to make the most of the Scottish Highlands again soon!

Tips:

Aside from the obvious mountaineering aspects, we would recommend the Mountain Cafe in Aviemore, a trip to the Glenfinnan Viaduct (for all of those Harry Potter fans out there) and, if possible, a snowy drive through the mountains to catch those amazing views...winter tyres were a must for us!

What a great find this place is for a nature lover/birdwatcher like myself. A log cabin, right on the river, with birds everywhere, I was in total heaven, it was a real wrench to leave the cabin each day. And I had snow, loads of the stuff, which just made it all so much more beautiful, and blue skies the whole trip! I have photos to die for. I am a solo woman traveller and felt totally safe at Burnbank. Phil and Ria there if you need them, providing a second duvet for me when I got cold (it was -10 at night). Suffice to say, I'm already planning my return trip. I should get commission I've told everyone at work about Burnbank and I only got back last night!

Tips:

Cairngorms National Park nice, the drive to Mallaig was stunning in the snow, recommend the Corran Ferry to the Ardnamurchan peninsular, which is a gorgeous area (the Garbh Eileen Wildlife Hide on Loch Sunart is well worth a visit - I saw 2 seals and it is set in a stunning location).

Area very good for walking, close to Fort William. We loved the Grog and Gruel pub there which is dog friendly, with lovely staff and food. Nowhere in Spean Bridge iis dog friendly which was disappointing. We went to Arisaig and Aviemore too while staying here as both are fairly close.

Tips:

during my stay i had a lovely meal at the old station, great food and well priced. i also went to anoch mor and went on the gondola ride to the top of the mountain, i walked up ben nevis on what i would say was the best day of the week, breath taking views to say the least. i would recommend that everyone who takes on the challenge of walking it, would be prepared with all of the right equipment, fort william has many shops selling outdoor + walking gear.

8th October 2014:

The lodge was perfect for us - it had everything we needed. It felt secluded enough, being by the river and the trees, but it was only a few metres from the main road, which made it easy and convenient - the best of both worlds. Phil and Ria were great. They welcomed us on our arrival and gave us lots of tips for places to eat etc in the local area, and then we didn't see them for the rest of the week, unless we went to them. It was good to know they were there if we needed them, but they were non-intrusive.

Tips:

The Old Station in Spean Bridge is a lovely, quirky pub/restaurant with lots of character, and the food is delicious. Steall Falls is definitely worth a visit.

Tips:

Jacobite Steam Train is well worth an excursion to Mallaig, also a walk along Aonach Mor is extremely enjoyable but remember the Scottish weather can be unpredictable so be well prepared. A visit to Fort William is also worthwhile as there are ancient ruins close by.

You are helpful and friendly owners. Clearly care about the high quality and service you offer to holidaymakers which is reflected in the way you present the lodges. Thank you Phil and Ria.

Tips:

A really good place to stay as it's central to everything but at the same time very peaceful. Many places to walk and cycle and that's the reason way we keep returning! The Caledonian Canal is a great place to cycle with the Great Glen waymarkers keeping you mostly off the roads. Nevis Range is local which has increased its things to do over the years a must for the mountainbiker. A walk along the Nevis Gorge is a must. Good cycling from Glenfinnan up into the mountains. Glen Coe is a dramatic place to visit whatever the weather with many walks for all abilities. Brewers Fayre in Fort William provide excellent affordable meals.

We enjoyed the woodland walks straight from our doorstep and appreciated the loan of a walking guide from Phil on arrival. The Highland Soap Company in the village was a lovely place to visit if you like your handmade soaps and organic creams.
