Another very enjoyable stay at Fern Villa. As a regular guest I can assure other travellers that you'll have a very good nights sleep here. David and Catherine are very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is excellent and the house and rooms are spotlessly clean. It is currently very reassuring to see how careful they have been to make the house COVID secure. Highly recommended!

19th October 2020:

Wonderful stay. Catherine and David were very friendly and helpful . They were very reassuring and we felt very safe with the measures they had implemented for staying under Covid 19 measures. The rooms and dining room were clinically clean, hand sanitizer was on every floor and in the entrance porch. The Bed was very comfy, enabling us to have good sleeps and to feel refreshed in the morning. The system for having breakfast ensured no close contact with others and everything had been well thought out. Talking of breakfast, it was superb, with locally sourced fresh ingredients, a great choice and David’s porridge is a must. To sum up, we have no hesitation in highly recommending this B and B and will definitely be back if and when we can.

Tips:

Glencoe, the whole area is a spectacular feast for the eyes, with loch side , Glen and mountain walks for all abilities. Nearest Town is Ft William, about 12 miles away, with Britain’s highest Mountain, Ben Nevis and the spectacular west highland train journey to Mallaig, by steam in the summer and autumn months, crossing the famous Glen Finnan viaduct, as in Harry Potter. 36 miles down the coast is Oban, the gateway to the Isles, with ferry services to Mull and the inner Hebrides and day boat trips.

I have been staying at Fern Villa since 2013 and I can't find any reasons not to. Clean and fresh, maybe the best breakfast I have ever had anywhere in UK, reasonably priced, the rooms have been updated as well in this time. Friendly and knowledgeable hosts, always happy to help, always a pleasure to come back.

Tips:

The Quarry and the woods behind Fern Villa for a short walk, cruises on Loch Leven, Kinlochleven for ice climbing and Laroch for a fine meal and Clachaig Inn for live music (when it will be allowed again) and a nice dram of whisky (plenty of choices for everyone). And this is just the beginning...

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fern Villa. Room 2 was spacious with excellent quality furniture in the room and a really comfortable bed. Facilities was a 3 as the tv is too small and there was no safe or fridge in the room. The view over the park to the mountains beyond was lovely to see every day. Breakfasts were superb, perfectly cooked and David and Catherine were so attentive and always able to look after us. A Great value B&B

23rd July 2020:

We returned once again to stay @ Fern Villa, our first choice for a holiday on the first week Scotland opened Guest Houses for business again. Covid Government guidelines were followed as soon as we went inside and at all times throughout our stay. Lots of hand Sanitisers around and Footwear boxes in place. We felt safe as houses right from the word go. We were left to our own devices in our room and no one other than us two entered the room throughout our stay. Any requests during our stay, ie kettle, milk etc were provided following social distancing at all times. As always the breakfast was delicious. It was served in two sittings with social distancing and serving rules in place. I am Gluten Intolerant and my dietary needs were able to be followed without any worries whatsoever. We were able to use the lounge as offered and our four night stay was very calm, stress free, relaxed and safe. We were assured that all the rooms and in fact the whole house had been sanitised before hand and that this would be ongoing at all times. We enjoyed our break very much and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Tips:

This area, Ballachulish, is well known for its scenery, walking and ice climbing etc and is a good base for touring and sightseeing. It is also a photographers paradise whether for landscape or for wildlife and many interesting places are within easy reach. There is a local supermarket and a takeaway where masks MUST be worn! or you simply won't get in.

Lovely period house beautifully restored. Loved sitting in the lounge with the open fire after coming in from eating in the evening. Our bedroom was spotlessly clean and well appointed and the bed very comfortable. Having the use of a drying room for our hill gear was a real bonus. The breakfast mens had a wide range of good quality food to choose from and it was all very well cookd and presented. I would highly recommend the Bircher Muesli. My only suggestion would be to provide a range of tea as I find the breakfast teas too weak for my taste. David was a perfect host and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back!

Tips:

The Clachaig Inn, Ballachuilish Hotel and Onich Hotel all serve good food with vegetarian and vegan options. Booking is recommnended for the hotels. The Ice Factor at Kinlochleven is a great facility for indoor ice climbing, sport climbing and bouldering and has a good cafe. For any other information, the local tourist information centre is just down the road near the Coop in Ballachuilish.

Keine Wünsche blieben unerfüllt. Jedem zu empfehlen. Wir kommen gerne wieder. 1000x Danke. Marko und Nicole aus Berlin.

This was the most welcoming of B&Bs in the most beautiful of locations. Wonderful hosts providing lots of information. The breakfast was the best in all of our Scotland trip, 3 choices of menus. Extremely nice. Only reason I said facilities were good is that we had a small room which he said was fine. We filled it with luggage and still managed fine. Sleeping was wonderful! Fern Villa - Ballachulish (8/10) Located in the centre if the tiny village of Ballachulish, which is on the loch side, and just 200m from a great restaurant and 400m from a large Co-op to buy all of your food, drink and other necessities. Free parking right opposite the B&B. This is a well used and established property and the owners David & Katherine are very knowledgeable and kind and couldn't be more helpful with tips and information on where to go and how to get there. Rooms (7/10) Size : Small but perfectly adequate if you are not spending much time in them. In fact almost everything had been thought of. There's a small wardrobe and a coffee table with tea & coffee. Collapsible suitcase stands are a thoughtful touch and the TV is tiny but fine for listening to the news etc. Note there is no fridge or safe box. Everything seemed spotlessly clean. Bed (7/10): The twin beds of a reasonable size and the mattresses were firm-soft and we slept very well on them. AC / Heating (7/10): No AC but the heated radiators worked well (and heated towel rack) and clothes dried quickly on them as well as heating the room well. The window opened for fresh air. Bathroom (7/10) : looks like new grouting and it's very clean. The shower is over the bath but both pressure and water temperature were enough for a good shower though not outstanding. Water is constantly heated on delivery so will never run out! Towels are soft and more than sufficient in size and quantity. There is an impressive selection of just about everything you may need in the bathroom, with 7 types of liquid soaps / creams and even cotton buds and balls. Nice! Location (8/10) : On a beautiful loch just 1-2 kms from the town of Glencoe and a quick & easy drive to either Fort William or Oban. See description of the property above. Breakfast 9/10 : Excellent. They're are 7 Cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt and a great selection of cooked breakfasts delivered on piping hot plates (yay)! The locally cured bacon was superb as were the free range eggs. As always I don't drink hotel coffee shop can't comment on it

Tips:

The pub 100m away has a Michelin starred chef but almost pub prices. We ate there both nights of our stay and every one of the 4 mains and desserts we tried were absolutely excellent. David & Katherine know the one

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at Fern Villa. The room was comfortable, the staff were very helpful, and the breakfasts were delicious. We were able to get local tips (eating, sights, walks, etc.) at the house from books, the hosts, and other guests. Communication with our hosts, before and during our stay, was great. It was really nice to have a private bathroom connected to our room. The location was perfect for our plans: we wanted a nice place to stay that was close to some of the hikes around Glencoe. If we make it back to the Scottish highlands, we would definitely stay here again!

Tips:

We had dinner one night at Quarries Kitchen--we got the fish n chips and thought the portions were good for the price. The local supermarket had great hours (I think they were open till about 10pm) and a good selection. Tons of walks/hikes off the A82 at and around the Three Sisters viewpoint. We walked to the old quarry and actually really enjoyed learning about it and the history of the village.

My wife and I spent a thoroughly enjoyable three days staying at Fern Villa at the end of August 2019. The welcome was warm (helped by a shared interest in photography), the room was spotless and the breakfasts were excellent. The location is quiet, which suited us perfectly, yet is within easy striking distance of Glen Coe, Loch Leven, Fort William and the Ardnamurchan peninsula. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

Tips:

The local pub is superb, but - as we discovered- the attached fish and chip shop only opens at the weekend. Glen Coe is a must, and we spent a very happy day hiking in the hills. The Ardnamurchan peninsula is only a short ferry ride away too, and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting it. Allow extra time for the very slow single track roads, however.

Clean, warm, homely BnB close to Glen coe, fort William and Ben Nevis. I can not comment on transport links but would recommend hiring a car to get around. The BnB was lovely, my room was a very clean and spacious ensuite. The breakfast was delicious with the host providing a good choice of cooked breakfast options every morning. The host was a very welcoming gentleman.

Tips:

I would highly recommend staying at Fern Villa Guest House. Fort William's and Ben Nevis are 20 mins away by car. I did not get a chance to eat at the local restaurant due to my hectic schedule, however this is only a short walk from the Guest House. Restaurant last orders are at 9-9:30pm.

David really enjoys his work. It i more than just a job for him. He is passionate about providing a quality experience and delicious food for his guests. He went above and beyond for us on a daily basis. He even did a little laundry project for us after a coat had been involved in a mountain tumble! He was absolutely aces and I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough!

Tips:

Great base for exploring the Fort William and Glencoe area! If you are unsure of what to do, ask David and he will steer you in the best direction!

Ballachulish is a very small village close to Fort William and the breathtaking Glencoe area. David was a diligent, interesting host despite having been injured in a car accident a week earlier. The local pub served good meals, but David’s porridge was the winner. Clean, comfortable room. We would choose to stay at Fern Villa again.

Fern Villa was perfect for a one-night stay on our way to Skye, though we met others there who were staying multiple nights and hiking, and very much enjoyed their stay, too. We ended up with the only room available for a 1-night stay, the ground floor small double. Though very small, it was well fitted with amenities, and we slept well. Our breakfast was very good, even with gf options my husband needed. Owners were very nice, friendly. Great parking across the street in a nice lot.

Tips:

On the advice of Fern Villa, we called a few days early to reserve dinner at the Laroch Restaurant, a very nice place a block away. We appreciated this advance information.

The guest house was easy to find and beautifully situated on the edge of the village, facing the shinty green. Views of the mountains too. Our hosts were brilliant, helpful, kind and cooked amazing breakfasts. Our bedroom was lovely and very comfortable Their knowledge of the area was so helpful and their recommendations of where to eat was invaluable.

Tips:

There is so much to see when using Fern Villa as a base, it's not far from Glen Coe or from Fort William. We visited Inverarey Castle....well worth a visit. Regarding evening meals, the pub a short distance from Fern Villa serves absolutely gorgeous meals, but booking your table is essential as it is so popular.

Fern Villa is a lovely guest house. David and Catherine are excellent hosts. They are friendly and informative and very helpful. I had a very early start on my first day there and David was happy to rise early to have breakfast ready almost an hour before normal breakfast time. I really appreciated that. The bedroom was very comfy and the guest living room was well stocked with books of all types. They provide a drying room for wet hiking gear which was useful. And the breakfast was superb. I tried a lot of the options over my three days and enjoyed it all. I would very happily stay here again.

Tips:

The slate quarry is worth a look. Very interesting history of a local industry that lasted 300 years. The Lochaber Inn needs to be booked for the restaurant but if there is a seat available in the bar you can have a meal there without a booking.

We absolutely loved staying at Fern Villa, it was by far our favorite of all the spots we stayed whilst in Scotland. David and Catherine were incredibly sweet and caring, and the epitome of hosts. The room was clean and thoughtfully decorated, with a gorgeous view of the village, loch, and mountains. Breakfast was the perfect way to start off each morning. David had great recommendations for hikes and sights to see, and took the time to tell us about the village and answer any questions that we had. It truly felt like staying in a home and was so enjoyable. Would return without a doubt.

Tips:

Ask David for walks/hikes around the area. The Ballachulish Peninsula is amazing, especially with the view of the islands in the loch. We enjoyed the walk through the quarry and into the woods. The Chippery was hit, as we were there when it was open!

Catherine and David are superb hosts! They are very welcoming and willing to inform you about the area. The house is very very well kept and spotlessly clean with excellent facilities. The breakfasts are always A++ with good choices and David is a champion at a "porridge contest". Don't miss it!

Tips:

The village has only one restaurant, The Laroch, which is excellent with very reasonable prices. There is also the Visitor Center which has a nice café and gift shop but limited hours. Other than that there is a small Co-Op grocery but no other food outlet accessible without a car. Be sure to visit the slate quarry in the village. There are beautiful walking paths in nearby Glencoe which we imensly enjoyed (Don't miss the "kissing spot" on the trail!)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Catherine and David! They are both a fount of knowledge about the area....trails, sites, and restaurants. The guest house which is beautiful and well maintained, is a short drive to the scenic wonder of Glen Coe. It is also a short walk to a Chip Shop, and the fancier Laroch Restaurant. Don't miss the short trail you can find that goes from the back of the neighborhood, through old growth trees and long abandoned homesteads. It ends with an epic view of Loch Leven. Ask David. He knows.

Tips:

Crafts and Things for lunch or shopping. They have touristy things for sale, and if you look to the right there is a section with some really nice woolen goods. Chip Shop for a quick meal (get the fish and chips, not the pizza). The Laroch for sit-down, higher end dining. The Braised Beef was fantastic, so tender with a rich gravy. Hiking/Walking in The Glen can be tough and at times a bit treacherous...bring some well-made hiking shoes.

Found this B@B after being let down at a hotel. So glad I did. Parking was off road, big bonus. David was very welcoming & informative, in both where we could eat and visit. Our room was warm & bed comfortable. David provided me with a non feather duvet as requested. Towels were white and fluffy, bed linen clean & fresh. Breakfast was prompt and served on very warm plates. I had porridge one morning having read about it. Didn’t disappoint, but hardly had room for the huge kipper breakfast I was served. The table was neatly laid with linen napkins - a very nice touch in my opinion. I would definitely go back.

Tips:

Stay at this B&B and you will get loads of information . We were on route to Iona

The usual very warm welcome from Dave and Catherine. They provide a home from home feel in their traditional Scottish house. We prefer it to the modern, purpose built, more expensive B & B"s. The rooms have comfy beds and no skimping on the heating! The highlight of your stay is Daves traditional Scottish breakfast with the option of his speciality of kippers and oatmeal porridge. It's just the best!

Tips:

In the village there is a good supermarket. A Fish & chips/pizza 'takeaway" and a pub with a good food menu. Its a great stop off point on your way travelling further up north but has lots to see and do in the area too especially for walkers and climbers.

We had a very pleasant stay and the breakfast oatmeal was super delicous. David is a superb and very attentive host, he even dried our clothes in the drying room and recommended walks and restaurants in the town and area. We would come again. One minor thing was the shower pressure, which could have been better, but is nothing compared to the pleasant stay we had at Fern Villa.

Do quarry walk and the one along the peninsula, both very close to the accommodation. You get a good feeling of the area and as an extra treat some local history.

My wife and I had a fantastic stay here at this B&B. David was an amazing host and a great breakfast chef! He was always available to help us find our way around Glen Coe, whether it be hikes in the area or restaurant suggestions. Lovely stay here for three nights!

Tips:

Visit the Laroch Bar and Restaurant that's about 100 meters away. The chef has a Michelin star and it showed in the food, which was arguably the best we had in our entire two weeks in the UK. Also make sure you do the Brecklet Trail hike up behind the guest house. It's only a mile, but it has the absolute best scenery of anything we did in the UK. Incredible. The Three Sisters hike was awesome as well. It's about 6 miles away from the Guest House off the main drag in Glen Coe.

13th April 2018:

We loved our stay at Fern Villa Guest House! It couldn't have been more perfect. We truly needed a little break from reality, fresh air, mountains, good food and we weren't disappointed! We stayed in one of the larger rooms for 2 nights, which was spacious and looked out of the front of the house. Every little detail was thought of, from offering fresh milk to go with our tea in the bedroom to providing basic toiletrees, which I imagine can often forget to be packed by guests. The bed was comfortable and we got a fantastic nights sleep after climbing up Ben Nevis earlier in the day. We even got to put our wet walking gear in the dry room so it was nice and toasty in the morning. Breakfast was fantastic - yes the Porridge is as good as everyone says and that's one of the reasons why we stayed. David took fantastic care of us and we shall be returning again later in the year when we walk the West Highland Way - thank you for such a lovely break!

Tips:

There is a CO-OP just down the road, perfect for buying packed lunches and snacks. We ate both nights at the Claghin - best pub in Scotland and live music every Saturday night!

David, the co-owner, was very friendly and hospitable. He made me feel right at home as I soon as I reached the guest house. He's makes absolutely amazing Scottish breakfasts. The guest house is small, personable, not overcrowded and very quiet so you will get peaceful nights of sleep!

Tips:

The quarry slates are impressive. The views from the top of the hill on a good day is spectacular.

Tips:

The village has an excellent Visitor Centre, the cafe being excellent, a good pub, the Laroch, a branch of the Co-op, a useful cycle lane, several excellent local walks and an interesting slate quarry to explore. The only down-side is the local bus service is under threat.

The second time I have stayed at Fern Villa with a group of 4 friends. Location is ideal for access to the hills around Glen Coe area as well as the Nevis range. Feels like a home from home with the owner David being very accommodating, cooking up a cracking breakfast, and generally making sure everything is in order to make the stay as care free and enjoyable as possible. We will be back!

The Laroch is a great pub/restaurant but you should book for food as it can get busy. Walking distance from the Guest House.

We had an amazing time at Fern Villa and really enjoyed the relaxed, homely atmosphere. One of our favourite parts was the breakfast, particularly the porridge! David was welcoming and a fantastic host. Thank you so much for our time at Fern Villa and we'll hopefully visit next year!

Tips:

We stayed at Fern Villa as it was 20/25 minutes drive from Glencoe Ski Resort. The scenery was breath taking and a great time of year to visit (January). The roads were well cleared and access to Fern Villa couldn't of been easier. Plenty of local amenities nearby including a supermarket and restaurants.

Very warm rooms, and lovely to have a guests lounge where we could sit and chat by the fire in the evenings. Very helpful and hospitable hosts who couldn't do enough to make our stay as profitable and enjoyable as possible. The breakfast was hearty and tasty - lovely sausages in particular! Found the ensuite just a little small, hence a 4 for facilities, but the fluffy towels made up for it!

Tips:

Winter opening hours meant that local eating places weren't always open when we were there, so we ate out at the places we visited during the day. Good to have a local Coop down the road. Found the whole area had stunning scenery, both natural and man-made(Neptunes Staircase, Glenfinnan monument) especially with the snow on the tops. Watch out on the roads for logging lorries - they are enormous!

Breakfast fresh and hot. But most of all it was David's hospitable, friendly and warm attitude that provided us with a lovley time! He was so attentive and kind. We had lovely chats, watched some beautiful nature films in the lounge where David had a roaring fire going. He told us all sorts of interesting things about the area. David was a great host - he made me feel very welcome. Despite being busy cooking breakfast for everyone in the mornings he would make an effort to chat to everyone with a genuine interest in what they had been doing. He also had great knowledge of the area with advice and ideas of places to go/visit. Also, I cannot forget to mention the great breakfast that was served everyday - a perfect start to the day! The room I had was great - it felt like home away from home, it had everything I needed and also came with complimentary toiletries. Thanks to David & Catherine for my stay - you have a lovely b&b, which I would recommend to fellow travelers visiting the area!

Tips:

I would definitely recommend The Laroch bar & restaurant, which is just done the road from Fern Villa - great food and atmosphere - but don't forget to book as it gets busy! There are local walks close to Fern Villa Guest House, of which David is very knowledgeable on. However, if you wish to go further afield but don't want the challenge of Ben Nevis I would recommend walks around Glen Nevis - you can pick up a map of 8 walks surrounding Glen Nevis for just £1 from the Glen Nevis visitor centre.

A warm welcome, a wonderful and delicious breakfast, so very close to the most scenic and breathtaking mountain trekking in the Highlands. Will be back for sure! P.S. - That porridge!

Tips:

If you like trekking, the Devil staircase one is a must do. As for food, our favorite place was (by far!) the Clachain Inn (the veggie haggis is a must).

Many thanks to Dave for looking after us so well! Fern Villa is a lovely, comfortable, characterful house, set in a convenient location, with easy access to Oban, Glencoe, Fort William & Kinlochleven. Dave provided us both with an excellent breakfast each morning & advice about the surrounding area & activities on offer. I would not hesitate to recommend Fern Villa to anyone thinking of staying in this area.

Tips:

We were staying at Fern Villa whilst visiting relatives, so didn't have the need to use local facilities much. However there are places to eat within easy walking distance, as well as a well stocked Cooperative store, a tourist information centre/gift shop & public toilets. Fern Villa has one downstairs room, which I would imagine is wheelchair accessible. There are steps at the front entrance, but I imagine Dave would be able to facilitate wheelchair access if requested, as nothing is too much trouble for him!

Comfortable, peaceful room in a lovely guest house. Hosts friendly, welcoming and helpful. Delicious generous breakfast (we had Loch Fyne kippers both days of our stay) though plenty more choices are available. This was our second stay at Fern Villa and we will be back again. Many thanks to our hosts.

Tips:

Fern villa in Ballachulish village is convieniently located just at the western end of Glen Coe, and as such is a perfect base for all kinds of holidaying travellers. Information about things to do and see is freely available from the guest house. We did find Laroch Bar just a few minutes walk away did excellent food in its restaurant and the bar itself was open and friendly. There's also a new fish and chip shop (sit in or take away) next to The Laroch which had lovely fresh fish and chips. Handy.

If you are in favour of spending your holidays in a real calm atmosphere with fantastic view on the surrounding scenery this is the place to be. Our room was quite small (whereof we were already informed during booking and again after our arrival, so this was totally ok for us :-) ) but very much suiting as a place to rest after a day out in the highlands or Glens nearby. The breakfast offers a wide variety of things to start your day with. The host David was very kind and always willing to give us nice advices and tips what to do or where to go. We will definitely come back when vising Scotland again.

Tips:

Very nice hiking trail starting at the world's biggest indoor-iceclimbing facility in Kinlochleven: The Blackwater Reservoir (17.5km, duration approx. 7h): http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/blackwater.shtml Drive to the Isle of Skye: daytrip Ben Nevis (Fort Wiliam) The Grog & Gruel Pub/Beerhouse and Restaurant in Fort William (very nice food)

We stayed in a lot of B & Bs over the course of our two weeks in Ireland and Scotland, but Fern Villa was our favourite. The decor was cozy and made us feel at home; Catherine and David were wonderful hosts, very friendly, great conversationalists, and with lots of helpful tips about the area. Breakfast was phenomenal (best porridge I've ever had!) and we loved the view from our window--very cool to see the mountains, in sun and in fog. If we ever make it out to Glencoe again (and I hope we do!) we'll be back!

Tips:

We loved Crafts & Things as a coffee shop, and had great meals at Laroch restaurant (in Ballachulish) and the Lochleven Seafood Cafe. I'm sure all the hikes in Glencoe are incredible, but we loved the ones we had time for--to the Lost Valley (which was semi-challenging at points), the much easier walks around Glencoe Lochan (great for a short evening stroll; took us less than an hour), and the hike from the Clachaig Inn to Signal Rock, which is again quite easy.

Fern Villa was the least expensive B&B that we looked at so we half expected budget-style accommodation upon arrival. We were super surprised by the quality and service, however. Comfortable rooms with good amenities, super tasty (and filling) B&B breakfast, and David is a great host; helpful and a great source of local knowledge.

We had a lovely stay - Fern Villa is centrally located to places we wanted to visit and Ballachulish is a very nice village. Our room was comfortable, with a king sized bed, and our hosts, David and Catherine were friendly and helpful. David, by the way, is an excellent cook and we enjoyed a full Scottish breakfast every morning. We're hoping to return some day!

Tips:

There is a two mile walking path which begins at the old slate quarry and winds through the pine woods before finishing near the Fern Villa - very scenic! Glencoe Village is only a mile down the road and boasts another lovely walk around the Glencoe Lochan. Fort William is a 15 mile drive from Ballachulish.

Catherine and David are the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble and the breakfasts are fantastic with a very good choice of food. The Villa is never cold so when you arrive back from a days exploring you can warm up, dry out and relax in comfort. There is loads of information available in leaflets and on request as a good knowledge of the area is known by the owners. If you're into photography this is the place for you...

Tips:

There is a local Bar and Bistro (with an excellent chef) in the village, a co-op store and a tourist information centre. If I you're lucky, as we,ve been once or twice you might even catch a game of Shinty on the field just outside the B&B. There's plenty of parking, an interesting disused slate quarry with footpaths all round which is a nice evening walk and fantastic views of the surrounding hills and mountains. It's a good base for walkers to stay and I recommend it all round.

Very lovely couple who takes very care of their guests. We really appreciated their kindness and help (advices on things to see and do, and always with the smile), the breakfast is just awesome! Warm and clean place. Near the bus stations and the tourist information which is very convenient. We would recommend it to other travellers for sure.

David & Catherine were extremely helpful, always around and having the best tips where to go and what to see (Glenelg Ferry to Skye was just one of them - thank you for that one). Room 5 was small but cozy and perfectly clean. Every morning we enjoyed the huge breakfast (which kept us going until dinnertime) as well as the amazing view from the breakfast room. Best spot to start a hiking or climbing tour! We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend booking at least 3 nights (as 2 nights were definitely too short a time to explore the beautiful area).

We used Fern Villa on a John O'Groats to Lands End cycle ride. The owners (David and Catherine) provided excellent communication prior to the stay, booked us a table at the local pub for our evening meal and provided a fantastically warm welcome when we arrived. David ensured our bikes were safely stored, and made them ready for us the next morning. The breakfast provided was exceptional - you have to try David's porridge!

Tips:

David booked us a table at the Laroch "bar and bistro". It's good, honest pub food - they even understood and catered for my gluten intolerance.

I recently stayed at the Fern Villa guesthouse during a ski trip to Glencoe. I could not have faulted my stay if I tried. The house was very cosy and clean, the breakfast was delicious (especially the porridge!) and the family were very friendly and welcoming. We were unable to ski at the Glencoe on our first day so our perfect hosts gave us lots of ideas of places to go/walks and lent us books on the local area. I would highly recommend Fern Villa to anyone looking for a weekend away.

I felt very welcome at Fern Villa Guest House and Catherine and found David very relaxed and easy-going so I felt nothing would be too much trouble.

Tips:

Unfortunately I didn't get chance to explore the area as was on a work trip and the weather too rotten to even enjoy a wander nearby but was given lots of useful tips for my next visit! The information provided in the folder in the room is great and David full of local knowledge and stories.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, clean and quiet room. It 'been a pleasure to spend our stay at Fern Villa. Also the breakfast was delicious and filling. We'll be back soon again , places to visit are many and the Guest house is located very close to the location of interest.

Tips:

If you love photography, there is no better place in the world where you can find incredible locations such as those of Glencoe. Lakes and mountains serve as a magnificent backdrop to your stay. One of the most representative areas of the place is without a doubt Glen Etive and can be reached via A82 (the main road), is like entering a Jurassic era, where the atmosphere make it even more exciting by the deer, the inhabitants of the place.

13th November 2013:

We enjoyed our stay at Ballachulish Fern Villa Guest House very much. Catherine and David were excellent hosts, warm, helpful, pleasant to have a chat with, yet discreet. The "small" twin room we stayed in was very clean and tidy.I expected it to be a lot smaller so I was pleasantly surprised to discover it wasn't too boxy. The beds were comfortable with nice firm but not too hard mattresses, there's nothing worse than a battered old spring mattress to spend the night on after a day walking about visiting or climbing mountains, so again I was very happy with that. The cooked breakfast was spot-on and very tasty. There are loads of different ingredients/cooking options to choose from and it is served rather promptly which means you don't spend precious shooting time in the breakfast room waiting for your food to arrive, missing out on that gorgeous scottish autumn light ( that doesn't last forever!) Our hosts seemed genuinely interested in their guests' wellbeing and and aware of their guests' needs, which is a nice change from those big company hotels who treat their guests like cattle (to use a harsh expression). I definitely recommend this B&B to anyone who wants to spend time around Glencoe and the highlands.

Tips:

Ballachulish is quite a convenient little village, there's a local shop situated 150 yards from the B&B and it's close to a lot of stunning or popular locations. There are also a few good eating places to choose from nearby. We ate at the Clachaig Inn ( directions available at the B&B) and found the food pretty good and reasonably priced.

We stayed at this B&B for three nights. The location is brilliant. 2 min drive to Glencoe village , very close to Fort William and not too far away from Oban so we had plenty to do. The rooms are basic but we didn't need much as it's just the place to sleep and shower. At night time we watched tv in cosy bed as every room had tv facilities. The breakfast was just to die for! All the meat was fabulous, especially bacon. I don't think I have ever tasted as good bacon as that one. Plenty to choose from as well. In the room we had kettle and tea, hot chocolate etc. I must admit the hot chocolate was the best thing ever! Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful as they guided us where it is worth to go and visit places. We will definitely come back!!! :)

Tips:

The Ballachulish quarry is definitely one thing to see. Absolutely stunning and very quiet so you can just enjoy the sound of nature.
