Nothing is too much trouble for Sue and Andy. Even giving us a lift into town for our evening meal. The view from the sitting/dining room is brilliant. Breakfast was cooked fresh and delicious, setting us up for the day. I thought all the information from Sue and Andy about where to eat and visit was very helpful.

Tips:

We ate at the Stables, which was lovely. We visited Treasures of the Earth which was interesting and Neptune's Staircase and were lucky enough to see boats going through the locks. The Moorings, which is next to the locks has a lovely bar and cafe area.

Locn: bit over a mile on the south side of Fort William on slightly elevated block with sealed, off street parking. Electric car charging point available for free/donation. Terrific views over Loch Linnhe and mountains from guest breakfast room/lounge. The hosts, Sue & Andy provide very good local knowledge, brochures and a superb full Scottish breakfast with customisable options. Medium sized bedroom at rear with Quiet comfortable bed. The double glazed window is set into the sloping ceiling and is opened by remote control. It includes a motorised blind to control light. If you want fresh air at night you also have to accept the 5 am dawn light beaming in. Solid timber wardrobe & desk. The bathroom is small but well finished with Quality linen and a full range of toiletries supplied. Free WiFi, weak signal upstairs. Tea & coffee supplied. Clothes Washing service available if staying more than one night for a fee.

Tips:

The Clan McDuff Hotel, 1 mile to the South has a good restaurant at reasonable prices.

We have noted your comment about the Velux window and its integral blind - we will try to find a way to resolve that issue if we can. Thank you for mentioning it! We will also have a look to see if there is anything we can do to improve the strength wifi coverage upstairs.

We really enjoyed our stay at Torlinnhe Guesthouse. The rooms were clean, the breakfast exceptional and the owners very nice! You get a lot of helpful information concerning restaurants and what to do in the area. The B&B is about 20mins walk from Fort William centre but since you have to pay for parking and the max. parking time is 3 hours there (we could park for free next to the house) that was perfectly fine too. We can definitely recommend the place and hope we can come back someday!

Warm and welcoming as soon as we arrived. Excellent local knowledge, and more than prepared to go above and beyond for you. The rooms were modern and well presented. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and it was all of good quality. We would definitely like to stay here again and would highly recommend to anybody who loves the great outdoors and hiking, and is looking for somewhere comfortable to stay with a warm hearty breakfast.

Tips:

We would highly recommend the walk through glen Nevis valley to an steall waterfall. The views are breathtaking and the walk is not to difficult. For a longer walk you can continue to corrour station, which is approximately 13 miles, and then you can catch the train back to fort William. The hosts have excellent local knowledge so be sure to ask them for recommendations too!

Owner Response:

Thank you for your kind review and your suggestion that a fan would have made your stay more comfortable. We are sorry you were uncomfortably hot. To be honest it was so hot that everybody was suffering and I am not sure a fan would really have helped much. The house is just not built to stay cool in extreme hot temperatures, our houses up here are built to retain heat to make the best of our normal climate! We do have a number of fans available on request but they are bulky and relatively noisy so we don't put them in the rooms automatically - you just need to ask. Despite that, I hope you enjoyed your time in Fort William. You were lucky to see it in such amazingly sunny and hot conditions, they really don't occur very often. We have been here ten years and this year is the first time we have seen those temperatures!

This was so lovely b&b. The rooms were just as they are in the photos! Breakfast was excellent also. The owners were very nice and helpful! Thanks for the lovely review. It's a relief that the rooms looked exactly as they did in the photos, it is sometimes hard to keep all the photos up to date when we make changes throughout the season. Usually only minor replacements or upgrades but still we want our website to reflect exactly what we offer our guests - that way everybody knows what to expect! Thank you for the recommendations.

Thanks for the kind review. Glad we were able to fit the vehicle comfortably in our car park! Sorry you felt our location is less than ideal - it is the one thing we can do absolutely nothing about but we hope the view makes up for the short walk into town. Hope to see you again soon.

WE HAD A WONDERFUL STAY AT THE TORLINNHE GUESTHOUSE! SUE AND ANDY WERE THE PERFECT HOSTS REALLY GOING OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE US FEEL WELCOME. THE FOOD WAS WONDERFUL, EVERYTHING WAS VERY CLEAN AND THE LARGE BED WAS WONDERFUL. THE HOUSE WAS WARM AND COSY WITH STUNNING VIEWS OVER THE LOCH AND MOUNTAINS. IT WAS LIKE A 5* HOTEL, BUT WITH THE PERSONAL TOUCH!

Tips:

DO ASK ANDY TO ADVISE ON GOOD TRIPS/WALKS OUT. WITHOUT HIS ADVICE WE WOULDN'T HAVE FOUND THE LOVELY NEVIS GEORG WATERFALL WALK. A REAL GEM!!! DO EAT OUT AT THE SEAFOOD RESTAURANT, SUE BOOKED THIS FOR US.

What a lovely B & B and to top,it off the owners are very welcoming and always at hand to help. I travelled with my friend to climb Ben Nevis and when we finished and arrived at the B & B we were welcomed in and shown around and made to feel very relaxed, I can't fault the accommodation and I would certainly take my wife with me and stay here again.

Tips:

Highly recommend The Stables bar and grill, it was recommended by the taxi driver and it did not disappoint, it is located at the far end of the town. There are some very nice pubs in Fort William and to my surprise a Wetherspoons so if you are looking for a cheaper meal and drinks here it is.

Sue and Andy are warm, congenial hosts always ready with a smile and a pot of tea after a long day sightseeing. The accommodations were spotless and the breakfast menu was outstanding.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your guesthouse and we would love to stay again in case we travel around Scotland again. The house was beautiful and the views were stunning. We just wish we could stay longer!

Tips:

The part we enjoyed the most was conquering Ben Nevis - it was long and challenging, but well worth it. There is an amazing inn just below the hill which serves really good food what is just great for any tired hikers coming back from Ben Nevis. We also drove to the Glenfinnan viaduct which was +/- 20 mins away from Fort William. The walk was just about an hour and the scenery was magnificent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Torlinnhe Guesthouse! It was great to have a place to park, and for Andy to drive us into town for dinner. The walk back after dinner was good to work off some dinner! Breakfast was delicious and the bedroom and shower facilities were great. Loved that down duvet!

Tips:

For a low-key local place to eat, we tried the restaurant in the Alexandra Hotel. Dinner was nice, and we were lucky that it was a night they had free music in the lounge from after dinner until about 10:30. We enjoyed listening to Steve Brown play Scottish and old American tunes, with his regulars in attendance. I had not heard "King of the Road" in years.

We actually stayed for two nights. The best place of many in which we have ever stayed. Like being at home - only better. We would not go anywhere else. Sue and Andy maintain the highest professional standards and seek constantly to give their guests the best possible service. They understand the needs of tourists and travellers. There is a comfortable, spacious lounge area with a panoramic view of the loch, the rooms are pleasant, attractively furnished and well-equipped and the food is a delight. Sue and Andy are available at all times. The guest lacks for nothing. We could have stayed for a month. Perhaps one day, we will.

Tips:

Torlinnhe is close to the good lochside road so it is easy to go anywhere. Fort William, one kilometre away,is worth a visit. Also Glencoe,24 kilometres. We would have liked to have travelled on the 'Jacobite' scenic railway tour but there was not the time. A beautiful area, clean, pure, spectacular. We look forward to returning.

Beautiful location. Great prices. Feel hosts could have been more accommodating/understanding to our needs, no offer of cooked breakfast on first morning of stay, buffet only. Unable to bring food into b&b despite being mentioned in guest book in room, got the impression it would have been a nuisance and made to feel a nuisance for altering breakfast choices next morning. a beautifully located b&b with stunning views, we will definitely visit area again but unfortunately probably wouldn't choose the same b&b. Not sure if the issues stemmed from us being in a slightly younger age bracket but that is how it felt.

Owner Response:

Thanks for taking the time to post your review. We are sorry that you felt we were not as responsive to your needs as you would have liked. We can assure you age was not a factor in not meeting your requests. Our 7:45-8:30 breakfast times are published clearly on our website, our menus and are confirmed in our booking confirmations sent to all guests. We offer two standard alternatives for those guests requiring early or late starts, “Breakfast To Go” and an “Early/Late Riser” breakfast tray in your room. Again these options are fully detailed on our website, our menus and our booking confirmations. In your case we actually got up an hour early in order to provide packed lunches and a full breakfast buffet at 7am with fresh fruit salad, cereals, pastries, muffins, toast and tea/coffee – indeed everything except the cooked breakfast option. We are sorry you felt this was not sufficiently responsive. Our guest information indicates that “at our discretion” we are happy to provide a table in the lounge for guests requiring to bring back a take away. We do not allow food in the bedrooms for hygiene reasons and also to avoid accidental damage to furnishings and fabrics. When you said you wanted to bring food back we asked what kind and explained that food such as Curry and Chinese Takeaway were not acceptable due to the smell which lingers in the room long after the meal is cleared away. We were full that night and the lounge needs to be available and a pleasant place for all of our guests to relax should they wish to do so. It was a nice evening and we do provide a table outside overlooking the loch where you could have eaten takeaway Indian or Chinese without disturbing anybody else had you wished to do so. Once again, we are sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Torlinnhe but we have to keep the comfort and enjoyment of all of our guests in mind which may occasionally mean we cannot meet guest requests for services outside of our normal offering.

Good taste of choosing shampoo, shower gel and hand soap, other hotel/hostel would serve the cheap one, but choosing the right smell of caring products could tell how much you are caring the house guests and your own taste of life, 5 stars for that!!! Super good menu for guests, love having different choices for breakfast each day, totally made my days during my stay! Very good pick of room snacks and drinks! Those biscuits were AMAZING!!!! other hostel don't usually serve hot chocolate or decaf coffee, but you guys are sooooo thoughtful!!! The bed was very comfortable, the room temperature was great. The mirror in the bathroom was a surprise! nice one! I really like the combination of mixing modern technique and classic wooden furnitures. And of course, Thank you so much for taking care of us, we can feel your welcome even only in four days!

Very welcoming & helpful. Lovely room & excellent breakfast. Sue kindly gave us a lift into Fort William in the evening since we had been walking all day.

19th July 2012:

Once again thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Andy & Sue very helpful and eager to please. Very knowledgable regarding local area. Plenty of information available. Breakfast alone is worth visiting for!

Tips:

We would recommend Ben Nevis Bar Restaurant and Cafe Mango. We did the drive around Ardnamurchan which was beautiful - lots of lovely views.

8th July 2012:

Andy and Sue made the stay very pleasent. Especially the tipps for a trip to the isle and the back country were greate since we had a car. Great breakfast also. Location is not bad after all. It's really quite in the room thogh the house is near the main road.

Tips:

Think about renting a car to get around. Fort William isn't a town you could spend more then one day to see things.
